FRANCIS BACON

Francis Bacon (1909-1992) was a genius painter and considered to be one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Francis Bacon was born in Dublin in 1909 and was raised in the village of Malloughton near Wakefield. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art in 1928 before travelling to London and Paris for further study and won a scholarship to the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art.

He created paintings that were considered to be both disturbing and violent, but were also highly original with bold, vivid colours. One such painting is his famous “Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion” which is part 3 in a series that included paintings such as “Painting (1946)”.
